Mass beer openers

I'd like to return for a moment to my list of beer openers, and add two extra ones. Their common thing is opening beer on a sort of large scale.

The first one lets you open 20 beers at once. It can come in hand when you organize a huge frat party. Am I right?

The second one (via NotCot) helps you open beer when no other bottle opener is nearby. It is attached to 4-pack packaging. Pretty neat, don't you think.

Mort Subite (#33)

In today's episode of Girl Likes Beer podcast I try a beer of an interesting name and origin. It's a Belgium lambic called Mort Subite. If you don't know what a lambic beer is I recommend reading this article from NY Times.

The name of this beer comes from a Brasserie in Brussels...
About 1910 Mr. THEOPHILE VOSSEN ran an establishment called "LA COUR ROYALE". Amongst his many customers were a lot of employees working at the National Bank of Belgium. Those employees passed their time in the pub playing a dives game called "421". Before returning to the office , the employees played a quick last game and the one who lost was called the: "MORT SUBITE" or the sudden death.

Very soon this name became well known and when THEOPHILE VOSSEN moved to this actual address in 1928 he decided to call his pub: "AT THE MORT SUBITE". The same name as this own beers.

Let's look at the review, shall we...

Drink beer, live longer

A recent study (published in JECH) shows that regular drinking of small amounts (half a glass) of beer or wine prolongs our lives. Wine outranks beer in this field adding 5 more years while beer gives just 2,5 extra years to our lifetime. Apparently moderate drinking (the key word moderate) lowers risk of heart disease.

This is a first study to give superiority to one alcohol over the other.

Well, you know what I say. Have a beer, save the economy. Now you get a bonus and live 2,5 years longer. Cool, right?

Do you know Hello Kitty? I am sure you do. It isn't exactly a beer related character, right. Well guess again because if I understand correctly you can now get a Hello Kitty bottle of beer. See for yourself.

The diagram shows what happened and when to explain why we can enjoy beer today. It goes with my new saying "Have a beer! Save the economy!".

A classic type of beer ad. People enjoying a beer over a camp fire on a beach. What more can you ask... This one is a Spanish San Miguel. The beer is so so but in the right circumstances it can be quite good.
