Big beer christmas tree

A little behind the schedule since Christmas were last week but it might still work. So what would you do with a 1000 Heineken bottles? Knew it, a giant beer christmas tree in Shanghai.

It's been a while since I shared some beer randomness. But when I saw this one I knew it needs to be shown on Girl Likes Beer blog.

A perfect beer holder

I normally don't encourage people to drink beer straight from a bottle or a can. There is one exception though. Parties! When going to a party you should often be prepared to serve your own beer. Is there a better way to be prepared than like a soldier:)

Beer incentive

Let's do a little imagination exercise. Say you're a priest or a minister. You live in England. Your service is interesting but with all the exciting things outside the church you can't seem to get more people in. Especially men. Even when it comes to father's day.

What do you do? Offer incentives, right.

Well, that's what British clergy decided to do. They offered "a range of incentives today, including free beer, bacon rolls and chocolate bars". Some groups were concerned with this idea (alcohol abuse etc.) but Rt Rev John Inge, the Bishop of Worcester found an excellent explanation for them.

The beer would symbolize the God's generosity. Now that's creative thinking right there. Finally church is trying to find its place again in the modern world:)

My beer opener

Every now and then someone asks me about my beer opener. Where did I buy it? Where can they buy it? To answer your questions (present and future ones) I decided to make a little post about it.

The beer opener was a Christmas gift from my friend Bookie which you might know from some episodes. She's the mysterious off-camera voice. She bought it in a kitchen accessories/gadget store in Warsaw.

Luckily this type of beer opener is also available in US (and probably other countries as well).

I believe that these beer openers from Amazon work the same way as mine...

A really vintage beer

How old a beer should be so that you can call it a vintage beer? Well, try 9000 years. Can't get more vintage I guess.

According to Scientific American such a beverage will be available in US this summer. It is called Chateau Jiahu or Stone Age beer (as Discover likes to call it). Made on the base of the probably oldest recipe in the world this is an interesting beverage. It's a blend of rice, honey and fruits which apparently made some Chinese really happy. At least 9000 years ago.

The brewery behind this beer is Dogfish brewery which if I understand correctly has some interest in old beer recipes. This summer they are also launching a beer called Sah'tea based on a IX century recipe from Finland.

South America is another location where old beverage recipes can be found. Theobroma is a cocoa-brew made in Honduras 3000 years ago. To obtain the recipe the Dogfish brewery analyzed old pottery fragments from the Cradle of Chocolate.
If you want to know how it tastes go to The Beer Babe blog where you will find a short review of this "beer".

How to taste beer

I wanted to write this for some time now. However I will sit this one out and use a short guide produced by brew master Dave McLean. This helps me think that maybe I am also tasting beer the right way... Enjoy!

A camouflage for beer

I don't know if this is something you should try but I thought it might be interesting to see how you can camouflage your beer can in a public place so that you can enjoy your hoppy drink without strange looks.

I personally prefer my beer in a glass in a place where everyone can enjoy it and not hide while doing it. What do you think?

Who is a beer connoisseur

Thanks to StumbleUpon I found an interesting flowchart which helps you find out whether you are a beer snob. Since I don't really the word snob I replaced it with a more sophisticated one. And let's face it more appropriate to beer;)

Below you can see the original from Sloshspot.

History of beer cans

I don't know if you collected cans as a child but I certainly did. The beer ones were usually the best. Soda cans are just so ordinary, aren't they. I might reconsider my last statement.
