Mort Subite

• the looks: head (thick but airy), body (dark orange)
  
• the taste: also sour, with bigger cherry
  
• the smell: champagne feel, sparkles with light alcohol and cherry component

Hoegaarden (#64)

Biere de Beloeil (#39)

Today I review the last beer from Belgium. The last at least this year. And definitely the last from the batch brought by my friend Ania. The beer is a strong pale ale called Biere de Beloeil.

Vedett (#38)

Today I try a Belgium beer called Vedett. The interesting fact about the beer is the latest marketing campaign organized by the brewery. If you send them your photo you can become a face on their beer label. Pretty cool, right?!

In this episode I try something new. I'm comparing two different beers of the same beer brand. The brand is of Belgium origin of course. Slowly but surely the Belgium months are coming to an end. Just a few left.

In today's episode I'm trying a red ale from Belgium called Rodenbach. Trying the beer but also trying not to spill it all over me. You've got to see it for yourself.

Mort Subite (#33)

In today's episode of Girl Likes Beer podcast I try a beer of an interesting name and origin. It's a Belgium lambic called Mort Subite. If you don't know what a lambic beer is I recommend reading this article from NY Times.

The name of this beer comes from a Brasserie in Brussels...

About 1910 Mr. THEOPHILE VOSSEN ran an establishment called "LA COUR ROYALE". Amongst his many customers were a lot of employees working at the National Bank of Belgium. Those employees passed their time in the pub playing a dives game called "421". Before returning to the office , the employees played a quick last game and the one who lost was called the: "MORT SUBITE" or the sudden death.

Very soon this name became well known and when THEOPHILE VOSSEN moved to this actual address in 1928 he decided to call his pub: "AT THE MORT SUBITE". The same name as this own beers.

Gulden Draak (#32)

Today you will have a chance to see an interesting beer. Belgium one but you already knew that. Gulden Draak (meaning Golden Dragon) was rated as 1998's best tasting beer in the world by American Tasting Institute (now know as the Culinary Institute of America).

This week I try a Belgian tripel beer called La Divine. Strong in alcohol volume. The type/name of beer comes from the brewing process. Tripel beers are made with 3x more malt than normal beers. Intrigued? Watch the review.
