Zipfer (#9)

Back from my holiday and ready for new reviews. I am starting with an Austrian one, called Zipfer. Didn't have much to try, just a small can. As I was getting back from my beer trip I had so many bottles that I decided for something less heavy...

1. [PRE-REVIEW]

  • brewery: brewed in Zipf since 1858 (Brauerei Zipf)
  • type of beer: lager
  • bought in: @ a gas station in front of Schonbrunn
  • container grade (can): just a can, not much to tell

2. [REVIEW]

  • the looks: head (very light foamy), body (a light sparkling yellow)
  • the taste: light sweet going into bitterness
  • the smell: moderate hoppy

3. [RECOMMENDATION]

Whatever I guess...

Winner's Triple (#7)

And the last ale for now, since they are not so easy to get in my homeland. Let's hear for Winner's Triple...

1. [PRE-REVIEW]

  • brewery: Can't find it on-line (forgot to check the bottle)
  • type of beer: ale
  • bought in: @ Sainsbury's in London
  • container grade (bottle): an ordinary bottle

2. [REVIEW]

  • the looks: head (dark white and thin), body (a dark one in a dark bottle)
  • the taste: nice and refreshing I should say
  • the smell: just malty

3. [RECOMMENDATION]

I'll have another one but maybe not right away...

Pedigree (#6)

The fourth ale did not live up to my expectations. I went out to a bar in order to try out a non-bottled ale. A random choice resulted in Pedigree... well, random is not always good.

1. [PRE-REVIEW]

  • brewery: Burton Unions
  • type of beer: brown ale
  • bought in: @ a pub in London
  • container grade (bottle): no bottle nowhere near

2. [REVIEW]

  • the looks: head (flat and thin), body (a dark brown-orange, this one)
  • the taste: a bit bitter and out of gas, I guess you might say horrible
  • the smell: water like (and it is not good for any beer)

3. [RECOMMENDATION]

It took a while but I finished it...

Abbot Ale (#5)

The third ale that has presented itself to me was Abbot Ale which kept the standards and encouraged me to continue to explore the ales.

1. [PRE-REVIEW]

  • brewery: Greene King
  • type of beer: brown ale
  • bought in: @ Sainsbury's in London
  • container grade (bottle): kind of you'd expect to get from a pope

2. [REVIEW]

  • the looks: head (white big foamy one), body (sparkling dark orange)
  • the taste: light sweet with random hoppy drop
  • the smell: alish (not sure if this word exist)

3. [RECOMMENDATION]

I'll have another one but maybe not right away...

Spitfire (#4)

Newcastle Brown Ale really convinced to the ales so I decided to give some more a try. Picked them all randomly at a store and the first second ale was Spitfire.

1. [PRE-REVIEW]

  • brewery: Shepherd Neame
  • type of beer: kentish brown ale
  • bought in: @ Sainsbury's in London
  • container grade (bottle): typic ale I guess - look at me, already an ale expert;)

2. [REVIEW]

  • the looks: head (white and foamy), body (clear dark brownish)
  • the taste: not sweet and not bitter
  • the smell: beer breezy
